Nawazuddin Siddiqui reaches Cannes for Manto, recalls having only one suit the first time he walked the red carpet

Nawazuddin Siddiqui has come a long way in life. He is currently at the Cannes Film Festival for the screening of his movie Manto directed by Nandita Das

Nawazuddin Siddiqui is at the ongoing Cannes Film Festival for the screening of his movie Manto. The actor who plays the celebrated poet and playwright in this Nandita Das directorial has a long association with this event. Nawazuddin Siddiqui first walked the red carpet of Cannes for the screening of his movie Gangs Of Wasseypur. Recalling his journey, Nawazuddin Siddiqui said he had only one suit stitched by a local tailor back then. But now, things have changed, of course.

The actor felt that walking the red carpet at Cannes changed his life. Speaking to a leading daily at the French riviera, Nawazuddin said, “I was in Cannes for the first time. Four of my films were being screened. I feel blessed. For 13 years I was given no room to grow as an actor. Kuch bhi milta tha main kar leta (I accepted what came my way). Gangs Of Wasseypur changed my life. Today I feel I’ve just begun my life.”

After struggling for many years, Nawazuddin got noticed. With fame, his sartorial choices also changed but Nawazuddin thinks he is not a fashion icon. “I have no fashion sense at all. Mujhe toh yeh bhi nahin pata tha ke ek din main aise kapde pehnunga (I didn’t even know that one day I’ll wear such clothes),” he said.
