Mohanlal ‘s first release of 2017, Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol is nearing 75 theatrical days at the Kerala Box Office. The family entertainer, which marked the second directorial outing of Vellimoonga fame Jibu Jacob released on 20 January. Produced by Bangalore Days maker Sophia Paul, Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol also marked the collaboration of Mohanlal-Meena duo after 2013 hit Drishyam.
InUth had previously reported that Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol is all set to cross the Rs 2 crore mark at the Cochin multiplexes.
On Friday, Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol crossed the Rs 2 crore mark at the Cochin multiplexes. It’s a remarkable feat considering that the film is Lalettan’s third film in a row to cross the Rs 2 crore mark. The Malayalam superstar’s previous releases Oppam and Pulimurugan were also Rs 2 crore grosser at the Cochin multiplexes.
Upon its release, Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol had stiff competition from Dulquer Salmaan starrer Jomonte Suvisheshangal and Bollywood releases, Shah Rukh Khan’s Raees and Hrithik Roshan starrer Kaabil at the Kerala Box Office. But the positive reports and Mohanlal’s star power worked for the film to overpower all the films at the Kerala Box Office.
Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol also starred Anoop Menon, Kasaba fame Neha Saxena, Alencier Ley Lopez, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Sharafudheen, Srindaa, Sudheer Karamana, Bindu Panicker, Jacobinte Swargarajyam fame Aima Rosmy Sebastian and Bhaskar: The Rascal fame Sanoop Santhosh.
Meanwhile, Mohanlal’s upcoming 1971 : Beyond Borders is slated to be released on 7 April. The war drama stars Lalettan in dual roles, as Major Mahadevan and Major Sahadevan.
