Kerala film industry has double reasons to rejoice. Both releases of last Friday, Oru Mexican Aparatha and Angamaly Diaries, have opened to a tremendous response at box office

Kerala film industry has double reasons to rejoice as both releases of last Friday, Oru Mexican Aparatha and Angamaly Diaries, have opened to a tremendous response at the ticket windows. Written-directed by debutant Tom Emmatty and produced by Anoop Kannan, Oru Mexican Aparatha stars Tovino Thomas in a lead role. The campus political entertainer showcases the plays between two political parties, Kerala Students Union (KSU) and The Student’s Federation of India (SFI) in Maharajas College in Ernakulam, Kerala.

Oru Mexican Aparatha has opened to a bumper start on its opening day at the Kerala Box Office thanks to pre-release hype the film had generated through its record-breaking teaser. The Tovino Thomas-starrer has minted Rs. 2.10 crore on Friday, which is huge for a non-superstar film. Oru Mexican Aparatha also emerged as Tovino’s biggest opener in a lead role and the fourth highest Malayalam opener after Dulquer Salmaan’s Jomonte Suvisheshangal, Mohanlal starrer Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol and Prithviraj’s Ezra, which also starred Tovino in a significant role. Oru Mexican Aparatha also stars Gayathri Suresh, Spadikam fame, Roopesh Peethambaran, Neeraj Madhav, Kalabhavan Shajon, Anjali P Nair and Megha Mathew.

The second release of the Friday, Lijo Jose Pellissery’s Angamaly Diaries too had an impressive day 1 at the Kerala Box Office. The film also marks the debut of actor Chemban Vinod Jose as a scenarist and the independent production venture of actor-producer Vijay Babu. Angamaly Diaries stars Chemban Vinod Jose in the lead role along with 86 newcomers in important roles. The film, which had opened to an average response at the ticket windows has picked up tremendously from matinee shows thanks to a superb word-of-mouth publicity and good reviews. On its opening day, Angamaly Diaries has grossed a good Rs. 1.40 crore at the Kerala Box Office, which is remarkable considering its budget. Lijo Jose’s fifth directorial tells the story of local people and their life at a place called Angamaly, located in Cochin district in Kerala.

With Saturday numbers yet-to-be-revealed and huge Sunday trends tell both films are all set to become another big hit at the Kerala Box Office.
