Kerala Box Office: Know Mohanlal has scored a hat-trick with Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol

Mohanlal's Janatha Garage became 2016’s highest Tollywood grosser while Pulimurugan and Oppam also made new records at the Box Office in Kerala

Mohanlal has done it again. The actor’s recent release, Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol has continued the actor’s dream run at the Kerala Box Office. Directed by Vellimoonga fame Jibu Jacob and produced by Sophia Paul under the banner of Weekend Blockbusters, the family entertainer was released on 20 January 2017.

As expected, Mohanlal scores a hat-trick at the Cochin multiplexes as Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol turned out to be actor’s third film in a row to cross the Rs 1 crore mark. The Malayalam superstar’s previous releases, Oppam and Pulimurugan too were huge money spinners at the multiplexes of Chennai.

Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol had stiff competition from Dulquer Salmaan starrer Jomonte Suvisheshangal and last week’s Bollywood releases, Shah Rukh Khan’s Raees and Hrithik Roshan starrer Kaabil at the Kerala Box Office. But the positive reports and Mohanlal’s star power worked for the film to overpower all the films at the Kerala Box Office.

Munthirivallikal Thalirkumbol is Mohanlal’s fourth Malayalam release in a span of 142-calendar-days. The four-time National award winner’s previous three releases, Telugu film Janatha Garage and Malayalam films Oppam and Pulimurugan turned out to be all-time blockbusters at the Box Office. Interestingly, Janatha Garage became 2016’s highest Tollywood grosser while Pulimurugan and Oppam became all-time number one and all-time third industry hits of Malayalam cinema, respectively.

Munthirivallikal Thalirkumbol marks the collaboration of one of the celebrated Malayalam couple, Mohanlal and Meena, after their 2013 blockbuster Drishyam. Interestingly, similar to Drishyam, both the actors have donned Christian characters in the film as a married couple, Ulahannan and Annyamma. Munthirivallikal Thalirkumbol also stars an ensemble star cast including Kannada actress Neha Saxena, Aima Rosmy Sebasian, Sanoop Santhosh , Anoop Menon, Alencier Ley Lopez, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Sharafudheen, Srindaa, Sudheer Karamana and Bindu Panicker.
