Malayalam actor Prithviraj Sukumaran’s first 2017 release, Ezra hit the UAE screens on 16 February 2017. Touted to be a horror thriller, the film was jointly produced by A.V. Anoop, Mukesh R Mehta and C.V. Sarathy under their respective home banners AVA Productions and E4 Entertainment. Written and directed by Jay K, Ezra also marks the Malayalam debut of Tamil actress Priya Anand.
Ezra, which had released on 10 February at the Kerala Box Office, has so far minted more than Rs 23 crore from its 13 theatrical days. The film has also crossed Rs 1 crore mark at the Cochin multiplexes to become the fastest third film to do so at the Kerala Box Office after Aamir Khan starrer Dangal and Rajinikanth’s Kabali. Upon its release, the film has been praised for the performances of the entire cast including Prithviraj, Priya Anand, Tovino Thomas, Sujith Shanker and the 2015 Kerala state award winner Sudev Nair. Even on social medias like Twitter and Facebook, Ezra is trending with positive reviews from the audience.
The film has recorded phenomenal business at the UAE Box Office as well, despite entering in its second week. Additional shows for the film have been added across the UAE due to the huge public demand. Last Thursday, on its opening day, Ezra had 75 shows across the UAE whereas today, on its second Thursday, the film is screening in 98 shows at the UAE Box Office. The positive reviews to the horror film with the help of Vivek Ranjith’s English subtitle have worked in favor of the film to attract non-Malayalam audience as well.
Ezra also features Vijayaraghavan, Alencier Lopez and Ann Sheetal in other pivotal roles.
