As promised last week, your Kulture Didi is back this week with her woke take on another Bollywood film. She says it will really help bring about the real achhe din(good days) in this country if we discuss movies intelligently. That is precisely why Kulture Didi, a woke millennial from the City of Joy, has taken the responsibility to review films even though no one really asked her to.
Her name is Kulture (you know like culture, but with a K), daughter to intellectuals whose thesis on numerology, crystal study & ‘Is science even real’ inspired the Kardashians, Kjo, Ekta…Ekta Kapoor (doh!) to get their K obsession on. And, in the name of Ray, she shall be dishing on Soumik Sen’s Emraan Hashmi, Shreya Dhanwanthary, Snighadeep Chatterjee, and Shibani Bedi-starrer Why Cheat India this week!
Last year, during the ongoing #metoo movement in Bollywood, Sen was accused of sexual harassment, which is why he was kept away from the promotions of the film, while some called for the makers to remove his name from the film’s credits entirely.
She says it’s a well-intentioned film that gets a lot of things right about what’s wrong with Indian parents pushing their kids towards academic excellence at whatever cost. But, we can’t make pickle out of good intentions to have it with the khichdi (mishmash) that is this film.
