Starring Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson, The Fate of the Furious, also called the Fast & Furious 8, has turned out to be a huge hit.

The eighth film of the Fast and Furious film franchise, The Fate of the Furious (also Fast & Furious 8) has turned out to be a huge hit. The film was released on May 12 (Wednesday) and has attracted a lot of viewers over the last few days. In its first weekend, the film managed to collect 47.5 crores at the box office. The film stars Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris ‘Ludacris’ Bridges, Scott Eastwood, Nathalie Emmanuel, Kurt Russell and Charlize Theron and continues the story of professional street racer Dominic Toretto.

The film gathered 5.5 crores on its opening day but managed to collect 9.25 crores on its first full day on Thursday. It witnessed an upward trend on Friday but on the first day of the weekend, Fast 8 could only rake up 10 crores.

Wednesday (Paid Previews) – 5,50,00,000

Thursday – 9,25,00,000

Friday – 11,25,00,000

Fast & Furious 8 has also performed well at the international box office. The film grossed a whopping $432.3M (Rs 27,83,57,97,000) overseas and $532.5M (Rs 34,28,76,75,000) worldwide, which is the biggest opening for any movie globally. In China, the film set new highs, collecting nearly $ 190 million.

However, given the extended four-day weekend, the film could have done much better. The film still lagged behind its predecessor Furious 7, which was the biggest opening Hollywood film in India. Even if we take into account the earnings from the extended weekend, the movie came second to Furious 7.
