From Munnabhai MBBS's Circuit to Ishqiya's Babban, birthday boy Arshad Warsi is the actor Bollywood needs today

Arshad Warsi, known for his versatility with spellbinding performances in Ishqiya, Munnabhai MBBS and Jolly LLB, turns 48 today

Burdened by financial woes following the death of his father due to cancer, he was forced to move from a plush house to a one-room apartment. To make ends meet, he started out as a salesman selling cosmetic products and later joined a photo lab. When things got better, this Mumbaikar joined a dance troupe and even stood fourth in a dance competition. After making a debut in a film produced by Amitabh Bachchan, he dabbled in several character roles before earning acclaim as Sanjay Dutt’s sidekick in Munnabhai series. Yes, you guessed it right. We are talking about Arshad Warsi who celebrates his 48th birthday today.

Be it rustic Babban from Ishqiya or Munnabhai’s funny Man Friday Circuit, Arshad Warsi is truly a gem of actor. In his two-decade long acting career he has pulled off every role offered to him with utmost honesty. The film buffs will know him as SSP Ajay Kumar from 2005 film Sehar. Having stereotyped as a comic actor due to his exploits as Circuit, Warsi surprised everyone in this de-glam role as a tough cop dealing with organised crime in UP. It was entirely in contrast with how he left everyone in splits as Babban in Ishqiya.

Let us accept the fact that our cinema-goers are star struck. For example, Akshay Kumar-starrer Jolly LLB 2 raked in more than Rs 100 crore at the box office. It was the second instalment of the Jolly LLB series, the first one featuring Warsi himself. The film turned out to be a sleeper hit. Akshay Kumar’s fans will disagree with this but Warsi’s performance was much better than the second one. The conviction with which he essayed the role of a lawyer added another feather to his cap.

When it comes to comic roles, Arshad Warsi is indeed a treat to watch. His on-screen chemistry with Sanjay Dutt in popular Munnabhai series made him a household name and earned him a Filmfare award for the same.

He is also the part of the much popular Golmaal series, whose fourth instalment will hit the theatres this Diwali. Just check out this scene from Munnabhai MBBS when Circuit is asked to arrange a body for Munna, who is a medical college student.

Arshad Warsi is definitely the kind of actors Bollywood needs today. Someone who is unfazed by the box office numbers and lives his characters to the fullest. We hope you continue to enthral the viewers with several power-packed performances in years to come. Have a nice day!
