Dilip Kumar's niece clears rumours of the veteran actor being put on ventilator

Dilip Kumar was hospitalised on August 2 after complaining of dehydration. There were reports of his health deteriorating

Veteran actor Dilip Kumar is stable and is under observation at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), his niece Shaheen Bahu confirmed, denying that the rumours that the 94-year-old actor had been put on ventilator. Kumar was admitted to the Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai on Wednesday, suffering from dehydration.

“He is in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for the monitoring, otherwise he is okay. He is sitting on a chair and having normal lunch. He is not on ventilator. He is absolutely conscious, he walks in the room and even in the corridor with a little bit of help,” Shaheen told a leading news website.

“He doesn’t even look like a patient. He is 94 and his water levels have to be normal; we can’t monitor things at home, so we had to bring him to the hospital,” she added. Shaheen is the daughter of Kumar’s wife Saira Banu’s brother.

“We had admitted him in a [normal] room but then we had to shift him to the ICU,so that IV fluid could be monitored better. He is being given IV fluid by the drip and he was not drinking enough water at home,” she added further.

Meanwhile, Saira Banu expressed hopes that her husband would recover soon.”We have to pray he recovers soon. He should be well Inshallah! God willing. The doctors are treating him,” she told PTI on Friday. The couple had tied the knot in 1966.

Kumar, a recipient of Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan, is known for his memorable performances in films like Mughal-e-Azam, Naya Daur, Devdas, Karma, Saudagar and others. He received 8 Filmfare Awards for Best Actor in his illustrious film career.
