Vidya Balan will be essaying the role of a brothel owner in her upcoming film Begum Jaan. The Srijit Mukherjee directorial is a remake of the Bengali film Rajkahini helmed by the same filmmaker. According to her, the role was more exciting than challenging for her.
“It was exciting to play Begum Jaan because she is the most powerful character I have come across, off-screen and on-screen. I don’t think I have met women with this kind of flourish in their attitude,” she told ANI in an exclusive interview. Adding further, Vidya spoke about the finer details of her character.”She is complete in herself and happy to put up a fight on her own. I have played a lot of strong characters but she is the most powerful one.” Vidya reiterated that Begum Jaan’s strength was behind her decision of doing the film, “When I read the script, I was mesmerised by the story. So far, only Bhool Bhulaiya was the remake that I acted in,” the National Award winning actor said.
Begum Jaan also stars Gauahar Khan, Ila Arun, Naseeruddin Shah, Ashish Vidyarthi, Vivek Mushran, Chunky Pandey and others.
