Wanted to Bharat: Eid weekends are now synonymous with a Salman Khan film

Salman Khan's Eid releases more often than not emerged as blockbusters. Will Bharat and Race 3 join the kitty?

Every year, Eid means watching the latest Salman Khan film. The popular star has blocked Eid 2018 and 2019 weekend slots for Race 3 and Bharat respectively. Ali Abbas Zafar’s recently announced film, Bharat will be Salman Khan’s ninth Eid release in the last 10 years. All his Eid releases, except Tubelight, have previously managed to emerge as blockbusters at the Box Office. While Bharat is the official remake of a Korean film titled Ode To My Father, Race 3, which will release in 2018, is the third installment of the successful Race franchise.

Here’s a look at Salman Khan’s Eid releases since 2009:

Wanted (2009):

Director: Prabhu Deva
Box Office: Rs 61 crore
Verdict: Super Hit

Wanted was the first Salman Khan film to release during the Eid weekend. The film was a slow starter at the Box Office, but the positive word-of-mouth review soon kicked in and it went on to be declared a super hit. The film was Salman Khan’s first successful film post Partner (2007).

Dabangg (2010):
Director: Abhinav Kashyap
Box Office: Rs 141 crore
Verdict: Blockbuster

Dabangg played a major role in making Eid even more special for Salman Khan. The film impressed the audience and critics alike and proved to be the second highest grossing film of all time upon.

Bodyguard (2011):

Box Office: Rs 145 crore
Verdict: Blockbuster

The official remake of the Malayalam film, Bodyguard proved to be an even bigger success in Hindi. The Eid weekend backed with Khan’s star-power played a major role in helping the film bag the blockbuster status at the Box Office.

Ek Tha Tiger (2012):

Box Office: Rs 199.30 crore
Verdict: Blockbuster

Ek Tha Tiger was Salman Khan’s first association with YRF and this in itself grabbed headlines. The film garnered tremendous attention from the masses who could relate with the larger-than-life character of Tiger aka Avinash Singh Rathore.

Kick (2014):

Box Office: Rs 233 crore
Verdict: Blockbuster

Kick was Salman Khan’s first film to enter the 200 crore club at the Box Office. It was yet another blockbuster for Khan during the Eid weekend. The film was received well because of the entertaining content and hit music.

Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015):

Box Office: Rs 321 crore
Verdict: All Time Blockbuster

Bajrangi Bhaijaan was unlike any other Salman Khan’s Eid release as the basic premise of the film was emotional as compared to his earlier films which were more action packed. The movie not just emerged the biggest blockbuster of Khan’s career but also won a National Award. Bajrangi Bhaijaan also became the first Salman Khan film to enter the 300 crore club.

Sultan (2016):
Director: Ali Abbas Zafar
Box Office: Rs 301 crore
Verdict: Blockbuster

Salman Khan’s second film with YRF also proved to be a blockbuster. The Ali Abbas Zafar-directorial chronicled the journey of an aging wrestler. The film managed to breach past the Rs 300 crore club and emerge a blockbuster. Sultan was Salman Khan’s sixth consecutive blockbuster during the auspicious Eid weekend.

Tubelight (2017):
Director: Kabir Khan
Box Office: Rs 120 crore
Verdict: Flop

Khan’s much anticipated Eid 2017 release, Tubelight, failed to do wonders at the Box Office. The film, which was Salman’s third association with Kabir Khan, was criticised for its boring screenplay and unrealistic premise. Tubelight is touted as one of the biggest flops of Khan’s career.

We hope Race 3 and Bharat turn out to become Eid blockbusters.
