The 'Kedarnath' Trailer Is The Hope Bollywood Needed In This Dreadful Week!

Kedarnath is built around the real-life 2013 flash floods, that destroyed a majority of the town and claimed thousands of lives.

Bollywood manages to find a love story everywhere. Boy meets girl, but they cannot be together. And they must overcome many obstacles to be together, in the end. The formula has become slightly dated, as the audience of last year’s Jab Harry Met Sejal will tell you. The stakes need to be raised. And almost on cue, Abhishek Kapoor swoops in with the trailer of his latest film, Kedarnath.

Starring Sushant Singh Rajput and debutante Sara Ali Khan, the film shelters a love story between a Muslim boy, who lifts pilgrims for a living, and a local Hindu girl. And how the opposition to their love is matched by nature’s fury. The film is built around the real-life 2013 flash floods, that destroyed a majority of the town and claimed thousands of lives. It’s a good, old-fashioned Bollywood love story, the only difference being that a lover’s seething rage towards the world, is mirrored in the formidable mother nature.

The film sees Sushant Singh Rajput getting back with his Kai Po Che director, which also happened to be Rajput’s Bollywood debut. The film will see Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh’s daughter Sara Ali Khan, make her debut. There are scenes where the debutante smiles exactly like her mother. But can she act? It’s hard to tell in the trailer. If she isn’t up to the task, then the nepotism police a.k.a Twitter, is always around the corner.

Kedarnath went through a difficult production, with producers Kri Arj Entertainment filing a lawsuit against the director. Fortunately, Ronnie Screwvala’s RSVP managed a foot inside the door, to take the film towards completion and oversee the release. And now, looking at the trailer and its decent VFX, it all seems worth it. We haven’t seen a genuinely good old Bollywood-style love story in a very long time.

Here’s the trailer:
