After much ado, Rajkumar Hirani’s biopic on Sanjay Dutt went on floors on January 14 and finally we will get to see a masterpiece on the silver screen really soon. The movie was in news ever since its announcement and there was also news of a tiff between Sanjay Dutt and Ranbir Kapoor regarding the film.
But it seems like those were all just baseless rumours, as the shooting has just begun. An elated Hirani took to Twitter and shared his happiness about the film getting finally started, and wrote: First shot taken now for Sanjay Dutt’s biopic. Canning a very funny scene. Excitement in cast and crew.
In an interview with Mumbai Mirror, Hirani opened up about the film and revealed many interesting things about the biopic. He said:
It’s not a film about guns, drugs and the underworld. It’s a feel-good film about a father-son relationship with Paresh Rawal playing Sunil Dutt and Ranbir as Sanju… A buddy film with Sanju’s many friends adding up to one from the US, played by Vicky Kaushal.
Ranbir Kapoor, who will be seen playing the character of Sanjay Dutt on screen, is prepping up for the role from past six months and has worked really hard for this biopic. Apart from him, the film also features Sonam Kapoor, who will be seen playing the role of an actress. She will play a fictional character who is a mix of all the heroines to whom Sanjay Dutt was linked in 80s and 90s. Anushka Sharma is also a part of the movie and will be seen playing a journalist.
In fact, actress Diya Mirza also took to Instagram and shared the first picture from the sets of the film. She wrote: The happiest place in the world is on a @RajkumarHirani film set 🙂 #SanjayDuttBiopic #RanbirKapoor #AbhijatJoshi #RajkumarHirani #VickyKaushal #CinemaLove #BTS #Day1
With biopics being the current favourite genre of Bollywood filmmakers, a movie on Sanjay Dutt’s life will be a great opportunity to know the actor up-close and personal. In fact, Rajkumar Hirani got the idea of making Dutt’s biopic when they were shooting for PK and the actor narrated some of the unseen and unheard events from his life.
The movie is scheduled to release on Christmas this year and is likely to clash with Salman Khan’s Tiger Zinda Hai, which will hit the screens on December 22. With these two big movies releasing on the same weekend, it would be interesting to see which one will the audience pick for the first day first show.
