Rangoon undergoes 70 cuts, but Censor Board is not to be blamed this time

Few scenes from Shahid Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan and Kangana Ranaut's upcoming movie Rangoon have been chopped off, though not by CBFC

Vishal Bhardwaj’s Rangoon is undoubtedly one of the most awaited films of this year. It is all set to release tomorrow but the makers have re-sent the film to the Central Board of Film Certification. Post the CBFC passed the film, makers did some self-editing and submitted the film to the board for re-censoring, said media reports. This is an unusual thing that happened in this film.

Sources in the know told that post this exercise, the film’s length has been further reduced by 13 minutes. The insider told a leading daily, “70 shots have been removed from the film after it was censored and certified a month ago. The original length of the film was 2 hours 47 minutes after censoring. Now it is 2 Hours 34 minutes. The product looks slicker and feels lighter. When the censor board members saw it they immediately warmed up to the re-edited product.”

A member of the Central Board of Film Certification added the first version of the film was given to them too soon. He said the newer variant was better and they loved it instantly.

Starring Shahid Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, and Kangana Ranaut the film is set against the backdrop of World War 2. In the movie, Kangana plays the role of Julia who is torn between Saif’s Russi Bilimoria and Shahid’s Nawab Mallik. Shot primarily in Arunachal Pradesh, the film impressed celebrities who saw it. Everyone has been heaping praises on the film and said it is a sure shot winner. It is now left to be seen how the movie is received by the audience.
