Phillauri Box Office Collection Day 1: Anushka Sharma's friendly ghost act earns Rs 4.02 crore

Anushka Sharma and Diljit Dosanjh's Phillauri failed to connect with the audience, recorded an occupancy of just 15 per cent across Indian theatres during its morning and afternoon shows

The much-awaited film of actors Anushka Sharma and Punjabi fame Diljit Dosanjh has finally hit the theatres yesterday. While the movie was expected to open well at the Box-Office, this Anushka Sharma-starrer failed to connect with the audience. Reportedly, the film registered only 15 per cent occupancy across the Indian theatres during its morning and afternoon shows. On the first day, the film earned Rs 4.02 crore.

The film featured strong performances from Anushka, Diljit and Suraj Sharma, however, it seems the actress’ friendly ghost avatar failed to entertain her fans. The numbers are expected to go up in the weekend.

Meanwhile, trade analyst Komal Nahta had tweeted yesterday saying the film will pick up pace after positive word of mouth. Directed by Anshai Lal, the makers of Phillauri have already recovered Rs 12 crore from satellite and music rights before its release. It is being said that the film has been made on a budget of Rs 21 crore, including marketing and distribution.

Set in Phillaur, Punjab, it tells the story of Kanan (Suraj Sharma), who is persuaded by his friends and family to marry a tree to ward off the bad luck afflicting his love-life. To Kanan’s surprise, this awakens an ancient tree spirit Shashi, played by Anushka Sharma.

It also features actress Mehreen Pirzada opposite Life of Pi fame Suraj Sharma.

From essaying the character of a friendly ghost for the first time to rapping in the song ‘Naughty Billo’, Anushka has done it all for the movie.
