Akshay Kumar is not the kind of actor who would mind taking a back seat to put the spotlight on an actress in a film. This is ascertained by his tweet to Taapsee Pannu, whose film Naam Shabana, opened to theatres today. In a tweet, Akshay Kumar said that Taapsee is the real hero of Naam Shabana and urged everyone to watch the film. Akshay’s tweet will definitely work wonders for the film as many of his ardent fans would flood the theatres to watch this film.
Naam Shabana is a spin-off of 2015 release Baby in which Akshay Kumar was the protagonist. In this Neeraj Pandey directorial, Akshay’s character Ajay Singh Rajput sets on a mission to find terrorists planning an attack against India. The movie was full of high-octane action sequences. A gripping storyline, amazing acting, and presence of Akshay Kumar made Baby one of the most successful films of that year.
Despite Akshay Kumar as the hero, Taapsee Pannu didn’t get a royal ignore by critics and viewers in Baby. It was the appreciation that Taapsee received, which prompted Pandey to plan a film based on Taapsee’s character Shabana Khan.
However, Naam Shabana has not been directed by Neeraj Pandey but by Shivam Nair. Naam Shabana tells the story of Shabana Khan before Baby. The trailer explained how she went from being a girl-next-door to a secret agent. Her primary motive was to find the antagonist Prithiviraj Sukumuran and detonate his plans.
Taapsee did extensive hard work for the film and learned Japanese martial arts. It won’t be wrong to assert that Naam Shabana will be remembered as the film in which Taapsee gave one of her career best performances. Considering how Akshay Kumar and other Bollywood celebs have been praising her, Taapsee would definitely go places after this.
