When Kahaani, featuring Vidya Balan, was released five years back and it became a surprise hit. The film was praised immensely for presenting a strong female character and a content which appeal to the universal audience.
Sujoy Ghosh has now brought in Kahaani 2 and this time, it’s a story of Durga Rani Singh. A woman who’s accused of murder and kidnapping. But who is Durga Rani Singh really? Does Kahaani 2 stand at par with the expectations that the first film in the franchise set? Does Vidya Balan manage to leave an impact with her character the way she did with her Vidya Bagchi?

Yes, it does. Vidya steals the show in Kahaani 2. And supporting her this time is Arjun Rampal donning the character of a stern cop — Inderjeet Singh.

The stunning narrative infusing more mystery and more drama in audience’s wits is what Sujoy Ghosh is known for. He managed to leave his audience in the state of guessing with Kahaani 2 as well.
The teenage girl in the film appears as a surprise. She’s affable, fearless in expressing her emotions and compliments Vidya in her performance. In other words, the girl’s performance adds to the magic that Vidya weaves on screen.
Remember that scene in Kahaani, when Vidya looks stark in the eyes of Nawazuddin Siddiqui just before taking out that masked belly? Kahaani 2 has more than one such extremely gripping scenes that force you to remain stunned and glued to the screens.

The background music is what gives depth to these scenes. Though the promos made it look like a dark film, it’s not one at all.
