Kailash Kher, Anuradha Paudwal and K J Yesudas among film personalities to be conferred with Padma Awards

Three people from the film industry have been awarded the Padma Awards namely Kailash Kher, Anuradha Paudwal and K J Yesudas

 

The list of coveted Padma Awards was released today a short while ago and three people from the film industry have made the cut. Music composer K J Yesudas has been conferred with the Padma Vibushan Award for his contribution. Singers Kailash Kher and Anuradha Paudwal are set to receive the Padma Shri award.

Born on 10 January 1940, K J Yesudas, whose full name is Kattassery Joseph Yesudas has recorded over than 50,000 songs on differrnt Indian languages. The Carnatic musician and film playback singer has seen a career spanning more than five decades and sang in languages including Malay, Russian, Arabic, Latin and English during a career spanning more than five decades. Fondly known as Gana Gandhavaran (The Celestial Singer), Yesuda composed for a number of Malyalam films from 1970s to 1980s. He has won the National Award for the Best Male Playback Singer seven times, 5 Filmfare Awards and the State Award for the Best Playback Singer 43 times. In 1975 he was awarded the Padma Shri and in 2002 the Padma Bhushan.

Anuradha Paudwal, the singer who is well known for crooning devotional song will be conferred the Padma Shri by the Government of India. Anuradha has sung  5296 songs in Hindi only and some songs of other languages including Marathi. She is the only other singer than Lata Mangeshkar to be honored with honorary degree of D.Lit.

Kailash Kher, is a name that has went on to become one of the most sought after singers of the Hindi film industry. He is the recipient of two trophies of Filmfare Award for Best Male Playback Singer from the bollywood movie Fanaa (2006), and Filmfare Award for Best Male Playback Singer – Telugu from the Telugu film Mirchi. Kailash has crooned for  over 70 songs in Bollywood.
