Farhan Akhtar finally opens up on similarities between his Lucknow Central and YRF's Qaidi Band

Farhan Akhtar was asked about his opinion on the uncanny similarities between his film, Lucknow Central and YRF's Qaidi Band. This is what he said

Farhan Akhtar is gearing up for the release of Lucknow Central, directed by Ranjit Tiwari. The premise of the film, which revolves around the lives of under trial prisoners who end up making their own band, is quite similar to YRF’s recently released film, Qaidi Band. While interacting with us in a group interview, when Farhan was asked to talk about the similarities between the two films, he said that he’s quite sure about his film and similarities or differences don’t bother him much. He said, “I have not seen that film, so I am not aware of the plot of that film. We have complete faith on the content of this film.”

Qaidi Band featured newbies Aadar Jain and Anya Singh in the lead. The film is about seven under trials who make a music band and perform in the prison in order to save themselves from the acquittal.

While the story of Lucknow Central also seems to be on the similar lines, Farhan’s confidence in the film is what set this film a notch above Qaidi Band. He, anyway, had always maintained that the kind of films he wants to do in the industry is not just about catering to what masses want. Talking about Lucknow Central in detail, Farhan mentioned its director Ranjit Tiwari. He said that while the director of the film is new, it doesn’t appear like a film directed by a newcomer. He said:

I am confident that it is a good film. I am very happy and proud of the film that Ranjit has made as a first time director. When you watch the film, it doesn’t even for a second feel as if it is a new director. I am happy about the way film has shaped up. I am happy about the way people have responded to the trailer.

Farhan also said that suggestions from actors are a part and parcel of filmmaking. He further revealed that since filmmaking is a collaborative process, he did give a few suggestions to the director. He said:

“That’s a part of acting. When I direct films, actors give me suggestions. Filmmaking is a collaboration and everyone gives their suggestions. That’s a part of filmmaking and I give suggestions not because I am a director myself, but because I am a part of the film.”

Also featuring Deepak Dobriyal and Diana Penty in pivotal roles, Lucknow Central is slated to release on September 15.
