Veteran actor and cancer survivor Nafisa Ali is looking for interesting acting opportunities. Putting it out through her private Instagram handle, Ali said that she was looking for an ‘elegant role’ in a ‘perfect script’. She wrote that she needed the work to ‘express her emotions’ and also laid out the condition that she would ‘not be dictated to’. She also took it as an opportunity to address the communal disharmony in the recent times and urged everyone to be kinder to one another.

Nafisa Ali’s work till date

Making her debut in Shyam Benegal’s Junoon alongside Shashi Kapoor in 1979, Ali took a long sabbatical from her acting career soon after. Making her comeback alongside Amitabh Bachchan in Major Saab in 1998, she got her most prominent role in Anurag Basu’s Life In A… Metro in 2008. Starring alongside Dharmendra as one half of a middle-aged couple, a luminous Ali was one of the brightest spots in an ensemble including actors like Konkona Sensharma, Irrfan and Kay Kay Menon.

An encore similar to Neena Gupta?

Much like Nafisa Ali’s post, another veteran actor Neena Gupta had utilised her social media to bag opportunities. Starring in Veere Di Wedding, Mulk and Badhaai Ho – Neena Gupta’s Instagram post has resulted in the maximum amount of fame ever experienced by the actor. Can similar opportunities arise for Nafisa Ali? Given the spike in web content and high-concept films with modest budgets, one can definitely be hopeful.

Nafisa Ali was diagnosed with 3 peritoneal and ovarian cancer in November, 2018. After undergoing treatment, she is now cancer-free. Even though it could take a few years for her to go into remission. Ali was last seen in Tigmanshu Dhulia’s Sahib, Biwi Aur Gangster 3.
