Bollywood Is Asking The Public To 'Vote Carefully' At The Upcoming 2019 Elections

Film critic Anupama Chopra wrapped it all up by asking her fellow citizens to vote for 'a government we deserve' during the 2019 elections

The 2019 Elections are upon us, and Bollywood is coming out in big numbers to ask the public to ‘vote carefully’. Filmmakers like Vikramaditya Motwane, Amole Gupte and Nandita Das can’t help but focus on the issues of preserving the sanctity of the Indian constitution. Motwane stressed upon finding your ‘own truth’ by going through facts and reports for yourself, rather than being swayed by the false perceptions of the many compromised publications. Amole Gupte speaks about how a finger with ink on it, goes a long way in upholding the privilege of a democracy.

Renuka Shahane, writer/director Sanjay Chhel and stand-up comedians Varun Grover & Kunal Kamra, speak about the necessity to go out and vote for the real issues. “Some issues that don’t directly concern us are inflated to divert attention from the real issues,” says a comedian at one point.

Veteran screenwriter Anjum Rajabali stressed upon how this was a ‘critical period’ for our country, and how this election could turn out to be one of the most important ones in our recent times. Sound recordist Biswadeep Chatterjee put it perfectly with ‘bad citizens are voted into power by the good citizens who don’t vote’. Film critic Anupama Chopra wrapped it all up by asking her fellow citizens to vote for ‘a government we deserve’.
