Sahir Ludhianvi's magical lyrics and Khayyam's music make Begum Jaan's latest song Woh Subah a soul stirring experience

Vidya Balan-starrer Begum Jaan's latest song Wo Subah is out and the lyrics are quite meaningful

Vidya Balan-starrer Begum Jaan is one of the most-awaited films of the year. A Hindi remake of Bengali film Rajkahini, the Srijit Mukherjee directorial chronicles the struggle of a brothel owner in the Partition era. While the trailer has been received well by the critics, it is the film’s music which has earned a lot of accolades.

Vishesh Films, the production company recently shared the latest song, “Wo Subah Hum Hi Se Aayegi” which has gained a lot of popularity. The song is basically a recreated version of the track from 1958 film Phir Subah Hogi starring Raj Kapoor and Mala Sinha. The lyrics were penned by Sahir Ludhiyanwi and music composed by Khayyam.

In the latest version, the music has been rearranged by Anu Malik. Arijit Singh and Shreya Ghoshal have lent their voices to the latest version. What makes the song a brilliant one is the lyrics which has a lot of meaning. Sample this.

maana ki abhi tere mere armaano ki keemat kuch bhi nahi
mitti ka bhi hai kuch mol magar, insaano ki keemat kuch bhi nahi
insaano ki izzat jab jhoothe sikkon me na toli jaayegi
wo subah humi se aayegi
Roughly translated, the poet laments that nowadays there is no value of the human life, and an individual’s self-esteemed is measured by the amount of coins (wealth) he/she possesses. It is up to us to bring about a change in the outlook of the society.
