The festivities have kicked in and everyone in is in a celebratory mood. The Lord Ganesha has made his way into people’s home as the 10-day long Ganesh Chaturthi is being celebrated today. Bollywood celebrities too are in the joyous mood and took to Twitter to send their best wishes to the fans. Celebrities like Amitabh Bachchan, Anupam Kher, Sridevi, Ekta Kapoor and Kajal Aggarwal wished their fans on the auspicious occasion.

Ganesh Chaturthi is believed to be the birth anniversary of the deity. According to Hindu mythology, Goddess Parvati created him with dirt and asked him to guard while she bathed. When Lord Shiva came to visit his wife, Ganesha did not let him in, which made The Destructor furious. Oblivious to the fact that the child that stood guard was his own son, Lord Shiva used his Trishula to behead him. Later when Goddess Parvati made Lord Shiva realise his mistake, he gave his son a new life. Only this time the human head was replaced by an elephant head.

Lord Ganesha’s big head symbolises great thinking. His small eyes represent concentration, the trunk symbolises adaptability and big stomach represents a celebration of life. Lord Ganesha became the first deity to be worshipped in Hindu mythology.

As the 10-day festival has begun, celebs are all set to welcome the deity home. This festival is celebrated with great pomp by our celebs. Check out their wishes on the auspicious occasion:
