Malayalam-Hindi director and the Jury Chairman of the recently announced 64th National Film Awards, Priyadarshan has finally revealed the real reason behind Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar winning the best actor recognition. The veteran director, who had directed 91 films was talking to South Indian film journalist Sreedhar Pillai.
Priyadarshan had stated:
“Akshay Kumar was considered as best actor for two films. That is for Airlift and Rustom. And the Jury said one is for realistic performance and the other is for dramatic performance. So that’s hows the decision came and when it was done the Jury said we can only mention one name, that is the book rule. It is as good as getting an award for both. I have already declared that. Akshay Kumar was considered as best actor for his realistic performance in Airlift and his dramatic performance in Rustom. And it shows his versatility as an actor, Priyadarshan said.
Priyadarshan also added that out of the 86 films, only Akshay Kumar and Malayalam actor Mohanlal were competing for the best actor award in the main lead. He also stated that there was no third contender for the best actor award in the final round.
Eventually, Akshay Kumar has received the best actor award while Lalettan won the special mention honor.
