13 years long career, Shahid Kapoor is still hunting to be a part of 100 crore club!

Will Rangoon turn the table in Shahid Kapoor's favour?

Rangoon star Shahid Kapoor once said, “Every actor hopes his movies to do maximum business, but one can’t predict this thing.” Despite being a successful actor he is yet to make a mark in the 100 crores club.  The Ishq Vishq famed actor is one of the most versatile actors in the industry. From Jab We Met, Kaminey, Haider to Udta Punjab – the actor has done a wide array of roles in the past that has proven his caliber and capabilities. Surprisingly, if a list is made of actors who have entered the 100 crores club, Shahid does not make up to the list.

Isn’t it shocking?

His contemporaries who started off their career at a much later stage have also tasted success in a big way. Nowadays, movies are ranked and judged on the basis of their box office collection. 100 crore club has become a benchmark that needs to be touched upon so as to make a point. The saleability of the movie has become of prime importance.

While for biggies like Akshay Kumar, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Hrithik Roshan and Aamir Khan, 100 crore club is just a lollipop that has become easy-peasy for them to get, others fight hard to earn it (Ranveer Singh, Ranbir Kapoor, Varun Dhawan, Arjun Kapoor etc)! Records put it that despite being a fantastic actor, the collection of Shahid’s movies does not reflect the sincerity the actor puts in. The number game does not work in Sasha’s favour.

I can understand that when VivaahJab We Met, and Kaminey were released (2006, 2007 and 2009) there was no concept of 100 crores club and hence Shahid got his due critically. But then, when his recent releases like Haider and Udta Punjab hit the theater screens, the 100 crore club was not a new concept by then.

So what went wrong!

First thing first, Vishal Bharadwaj’s Haider was a master stroke, perhaps the best performance of Shahid till date. But then the movie clashed with Hrithik Roshan’s action packed Bang Bang. No offense to Hrithik’s fans, but Haider had the soul and courage to rake in as much money as possible whereas Hrithik’s film lacked the substance and content.

But all hail fandom and stardom – Despite a shabby plot, Hrithik’s movie earned nearly 200 crores whereas Shahid’s film had to settle for nearly 60 crores!

Coming to Udta Punjab, the movie garnered a lot of controversies. Once again, it had a strong plot and Shahid’s character was applauded by the critics and audience. His film was chased by the demon of 100 crores and Udta Punjab earned 60 crores approx.

Undoubtedly, Shahid Kapoor is one dark horse who is still struggling to find his place in the industry – an actor who is still looking for that big moment of his life! Maybe Vishal Bharadwaj’s Rangoon and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati can exorcise the demon and add 100 crore club to his strong resume!
