After films like Holiday, Airlift and Baby, actor Akshay Kumar continues his tryst with patriotic movies as he announces his next titled Gold.
Looking at the first look of Gold, it seems the movie will narrate the story of how India won its first Olympic gold medal as a free nation.
The Khiladi unveiled the first look on his social networking account. “The film is set in 1948, the historic story of India’s free nation, #GOLD coming to you on 15th August 2018,” Akshay said. The first look gives a patriotic feeling as it shows the tricolour with the gold medal at the centre which says, “XIV OLYMPIAD LONDON 1948”.

The movie will be helmed by Reema Kagti and produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akthar. This will be the first collaboration between Akshay and Farhan.
Gold will be his fourth consecutive Independence Day release after Brothers, Rustom and Crack (2017).
Akshay has been very successful in 2016 as he delivered three Rs 100 crore films – Airlift, Housefull 3 and Rustom. The actor also won accolades for his cameo in Varun Dhawan-John Abraham starrer Dishoom. He has an interesting line up of films like Subhash Kapoor’s Jolly LLB 2, Toliet Ek Prem Katha and Crack with Neeraj Pandey and Rajinikanth-starrer Robot 2 in which he plays an anti-hero.
GOLD seems like another good addition to the films based on sports. After films like Mary Kom, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, Sultan and of late Dangal, it’s good to see Bollywood taking notice of sports into mainstream cinema. While the other big festivals like Eid, Diwali and Christmas are booked by the Khans, Akshay’s strategy of targeting national holidays for his films seem like a good move.
