Ajay Devgn's Baadshaho all set for a wider release as the distribution rights sold for Rs 42 crore

All India distribution rights of Baadshaho sold for Rs 42 crore. At what collections will this Ajay Devgn - Emraan Hashmi film emerge a hit?

Ajay Devgn, who was last seen in Shivaay, is gearing up for the release of Milan Luthria’s Baadshaho. The film, also starring Emraan Hashmi, Ileana D’Cruz, Vidyut Jamwal and Esha Gupta, is set against the backdrop of the Indira Gandhi imposed emergency of 1975 and is slated to hit the big screen on September 1.

The teaser trailer of Baadshaho which, was launched alongside Salman Khan’s Tubelight, was met with a positive response and has generated a lot of buzz. According to our trade sources, pan India distribution rights of Baadshaho have been sold for Rs 42 crore. Cinekorn Entertainment has acquired the distribution rights for the aforementioned amount having been quite impressed with the content of the film.

The distributors look forward to give the film a wide release across the country with major push set to be given to the single screens theatres in the hinterlands. The film is expected to embark on a good start at the Box Office, especially at places like Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh and Gujarat which are the key pockets for the Ajay Devgn film.

The film is expected to break-even at around Rs 85 crore with the home release and the collections above that would be surplus for the distributors. Since there has been outright sale of theatrical rights, Ajay Devgn and the producers would not get any share in the profits earned by the distributors.

The film has been made on a restrained budget and the producers have pre-sold satellite rights as well, which has helped them gather profits even before it’s release. Now it’ll be interesting to see whether the distributors, who are the risk bearers in this case, manage to recover their investment.

Given the sale of theatrical rights, the film would get the following verdicts:

  • Average: Rs 85 crore
  • Hit: Rs 100 crore
  • Super Hit: Rs 130 crore
  • Blockbuster: Rs 160
