1971 Beyond Borders: Mohanlal's double role film confirmed for 7 April release

1971 Beyond Borders has Asha Sharath as the female lead. It also marks the Malayalam debut of Telugu actor Allu Sirish and Bollywood actor Arunoday Singh

The release date of Mohanlal’s upcoming film, 1971 Beyond Borders has been finalized. The film marks the fifth collaboration of Mohanlal and director Major Ravi. Earlier, the actor had portrayed the same role in Keerthi Chakra, Kurukshetra, and Kandahar, which were directed by Ravi himself. The makers had wrapped up the film in Georgia on Saturday.

After wrapping the film in Georgia on Saturday, the makers announced the release date of the film. 1971 Beyond Borders is set in two time periods and depicts the story of India – Pakistan war of 1971. Mohanlal will be portraying dual roles in the film as the father-son duo — Major Sahadevan and son Major Mahadevan. The makers have announced the release date of the film as 7 April, one week prior to the auspicious occasion of Vishu.

There are also reports that Mohanlal’s character, Colonel Mahadevan has been portrayed a member of the UN Peacekeeping Force in the film. The team shot the major sequences involving the Peacekeeping Force, in Georgia.

Produced by Red Rose creations, 1971 Beyond Borders features Asha Sharath as the female lead. The film also marks the Malayalam debut of Telugu actor Allu Sirish and Bollywood actor Arunoday Singh of Jism 2 fame. 1971 Beyond Borders also has Renji Panicker, Sudheer Karamana, Saiju Kurup, Krishna Kumar, Manikuttan, Padmaraj Ratheesh, Priyanka Agarwal and Zoya Zayed Khan.

Meanwhile, Mohanlal’s first release of 2017, Munthirivallikal Thalirkumbol is all set to hit the screens across the UAE and other GCC countries on 16 February. The film also marks the comeback of Mohanlal – Meena duo after the 2013 blockbuster, Drishyam.
