Smriti Irani defends PM Modi, says 'Rahul Gandhi ko gunday ka sath pasand hai'

Defending the PM, Smriti Irani said that Rahul questions Modi, but what has he done for the people of his constituency

Launching a scathing attack on Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, Union Minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Smriti Irani today said that Rahul has never fulfilled his responsibility towards the people of Rae Bareli and Amethi.

Irani was in Rae Bareli on February 21 to campaign for party candidate Anita Srivastava, who is contesting against Aditi Singh, daughter of local strongman Akhilesh Singh.

Earlier today, Rahul Gandhi, too was in Rae Bareli, where he invoked two Bollywood blockbusters to take a dig at Modi. He said that Modi promised “achhe din” like Shah Rukh Khan in “Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge” but ended up being Gabbar Singh of “Sholay”.

However, this is not the first time that he has made this statement. The same statement was made by him just a few days back during campaigning for the UP elections.

After Rahul, it was Irani’s turn to lash out at him. She said that the Congress vice president has always cheated the people of his Lok Sabha constituency. Irani, who had lost to Rahul in 2014, also questioned the development work carried out by Rahul in his constituency.

“Rahul laid many foundation stones but no work has been done till date. I have never seen any work on the ground during my regular visits to Amethi,” the Textiles Minister said.

Defending the PM, Irani said that Rahul questions Modi, but what has he done for the people.

“Despite remaining in power for so many years, the Congress didn’t do anything for the people of Rae Bareli and Amethi, and now when Modi is trying to do so many things for you people then they (Congress) are trying to tarnish his image,” she added.

She also launched an indirect attack on Akhilesh Yadav saying that “Rahul Gandhi ko gunday (goon) ka sath pasand hai (Rahul Gandhi likes being in the company of goons)” and that he will keep fooling the people of his constituency.

Rae Bareli goes to polls on February 23.
