This supermarket in Thailand has taken the internet by storm for replacing plastic packaging with banana leaves. The Rimping Supermarket chain in Chiangmai is packing vegetables with discarded banana leaves and tying it with bamboo strings. A post shared by Perfect Homes on their Facebook page with pictures of the supermarket’s veggies packed in leaves has garnered over 7.5 k likes.

Social media hailed the initiative and called it a ‘unique’ way of curbing the plastic menace. Many even wanted the supermarkets in their country to follow suit.

According to the latest UNEP report, with the world produces 400 million tons of plastic every year, initiatives such as these are the need of the hour.
