There is a place in this world where you can play with over 900 stray dogs and even adopt and take them home. One day, Lya Battle of Costa Rica, went to a dog home where she found that an owner had brought his 15-year-old ill Shnauzer and the staff of the dog shelter were planning to euthanize him. Lya decided to take it home, even as the staff told her he wouldn’t live more than a week and greatly cared for him. And, the dog lived for four more years. She then decided to open a sanctuary for abandoned dogs where they would be well-tended to and then put up for adoption. And that is how, Territorio de Zaguates, literally translated to ‘The Land of the Strays’, was born.
Today, Territorio de Zaguates has over 900 stray dogs and dog-lovers come here from far and wide to play with them and adopt them. The sight of so many dogs gleefully playing and jumping around a sprawling countryside is extremely delightful, a sight that would greatly satisfy your soul. Territorio de Zaguates is open to everyone otherwise as well and even if you aren’t planning to adopt a pet, you can just spend some time with these beautiful creatures. Lya takes complete care of these lovely creatures and there are proper bathing facilities, beds, feeding stations and water stations in the sanctuary.
