After the First Transgender News Anchor, Pakistan Gets its First School for the Community

As reported by the Pakistani media, the school that runs by the name of ‘Gender Guardian’ has been inaugurated by an NGO called ‘Exploring Future Foundation (EFF)’.

As reported by the Pakistani media, the country’s first school for the transgender community was launched in Lahore on April 16.

The school, that is called ‘Gender Guardian’, is an initiative of an NGO called ‘Exploring Future Foundation (EFF)’. The school currently has a strength of 30 students and will be providing ‘skill-based training and curriculum to the transgender community’. There is no age limit to those who want to get enrolled at the school.

The managing director of EFF, Moizzah Tariq elaborated more on the courses being taught at the school in an interview, “Most of them (students enrolled in the school) have shown interest in sectors of the fashion industry including learning about cosmetics, fashion designing, embroidery, and stitching while some have also shown interest in graphic designing and culinary skills. Having gained information from them first we designed our courses for them.”

The school plans to provide a diploma course to the students so that they can enhance their employability skills or set up their own business. The NGO will be facilitating them with both the options.

The news comes just weeks after Marvia Malik becoming the first transgender news anchor in Pakistan.
