The Indian film industry is a multi-million industry and a lot goes into making a film. It is not simply coming up with an idea for a project and casting actors for the roles. In fact, it is much more than that and it takes a lot of hard work, dedication, and of course money. There’s always been a buzz about how much money the producers spent on the movie sets/ location shoots, payment of actors and on costumes for the characters. It is a painfully expensive process but irrespective of that, we have a lot of big-budget movies coming up from time to time. Here’s a list of some the most expensive costumes ever worn by our B-Town celebs for their movies.

Shahrukh Khan’s Ra.One was the most high-budget movie at the time it was made. The blue body suit that he wore for the film was made in Los Angeles and costs Rs 4.5 crores. But wait, that’s not the end of it. He wore 20 such body suits throughout the film which puts the total money spent on a single character’s costume at Rs 90 crores.

Deepika Padukone in Bajirao Mastani

Deepika Padukone looked straight out of a dream in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani. To compliment the grandeur of the movie sets, a lot of attention was put into making costumes for the characters. And the director spent a whopping amount of Rs 45 Lakhs for custom-made jewellery for Mastani’s character.

Do you remember the LBD that Kareena Kapoor wore in the movie Kambakkht Ishq? It was no ordinary dress and deserves a mention because producer Sajid Nadiadwala ordered the dress especially from Paris and later gifted it to the actress. The price of the sequinned one shoulder dress was Rs 8 Lakhs.

Sonakshi Sinha and Arjun Kapoor starrer Tevar may not have performed well at the BO, but a dance number from the movie Radha Nachegi was in the news because the makers spent Rs 2.5 crore for the song and Sonakshi Sinha’s costume alone cost Rs 75 lakhs.

Vivek Oberoi in Prince

Although this movie failed at the BO, the producers spent quite a lot of money in production. Vivek Oberoi wore custom made biker suits in the film which cost Rs 30,000 each. There were six of them made in total which puts the total cost at Rs 2, 40,000.

Madhuri Dixit in Devdas

Madhuri Dixit played the role of Chandramukhi in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Devdas. SLB is known for making over-the-top budget films and this movie was pitched as the costliest film of the decade. Although there were many expensive costumes worn in the movie, the most expensive one is the lehenga that Madhuri Dixit wore for the song Kaahe Ched Mohe. The lehenga was priced at Rs 15 lakhs and weighed 30kgs!

Neeta Lulla designed the elaborate outfits for Ashutosh Gowarikar’s movie Jodhaa Akbar. Aishwarya Rai as Jodha wore magnificent ensembles and looked like a true Mughal queen. The price of every attire she wore was around Rs 2 lakhs.

In the period film Veer, Salman Khan wore custom made armours. There were six armours in total and each of them was made at a cost of Rs 20 lakhs.

In Rakesh Roshan’s Krrish 3, Kangana Ranaut played the role of Maya. Kangana Ranaut’s rubber-latex bodysuit weighed over 20 kgs and it took her 3.5 hours to get into it every single time. The cost of this body suit was Rs 1 crore and there were 10 such bodysuits which mean the total cost of Maya’s costume was a whopping Rs 10 crores!
