Looking for young leadership, Congress to make Jyotiraditya Scindia its Lok Sabha leader: Report

Jyotiraditya Scindia is said to be very close to Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi. Earlier, he was the head of the campaign committee chairman in MP.

Senior Congress leader and four-time Lok Sabha members from Madhya Pradesh, Jyotiraditya Scindia has emerged front-runner for the position of the leader of the Congress in Lok Sabha.

According to a DNA report, the party hih command has narrowed down the choice between Scindia and senior party leader Kamal Nath. However, Nath has reportedly showed more interest in becoming the face of the Congress party in the upcoming Madhya Pradesh elections and spearhead its campaign.

BJP has been in power for 15 years in Madhya Pradesh and the Congress feels that this time around, if it fights the election well, it can ‘wrest the state’ from the BJP.

Presently, Mallikarjun Kharge is the current leader of the Congress in Lok Sabha, but he has already been given the position of head of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC). Since the head of the PAC enjoys a cabinet rank, Kharge will serve his remaining tenure.

The report suggests that there are two reasons for giving the charge to Jyotiraditya Scindia, one is that he is close to Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi and the other reason is that his appointment, will see the party undergo a long-awaited transition from the old guard to the young.

Earlier, Scindia was the head of the campaign committee chairman for Congress in MP but was unable to deliver.

On the other hand, Kamal Nath who was brought into politics by Sanjay Gandhi in the 1970s is a senior leader who will command respect once he assumes charge of Madhya Pradesh. According to the report, this change in the grand old party of India is likely to be affected before the Monsoon Session of the Parliament unless and unless circumstances demand a different decision.
