In Jharkhand, 6 Members Of A Family Found Dead In Apparent Mass-Suicide

As per three suicide notes found at the scene, the family took the grave step under pressure from mounting debts

In a shocking incident, six members of a family were found dead on Sunday after they reportedly took their own lives in Hazaribagh town in Jharkhand.

As per three suicide notes found at the scene, the family took the grave step under pressure from mounting debts. The family also revealed in the notes that the youngest of the family, who was a minor, was pushed from the terrace before the others committed suicide, ANI reported. A power of attorney was also recovered along with the notes.

According to The Times of India, the deceased family members have been identified as Mahavir Prasad Maheshwari (70), his wife Kiran (65), their son Naresh Prasad Maheshwari (40) and his wife Kriti (38) and grandchildren children Aman (10) and Atan (8).

The incident came to light when the neighbours found a corpse lying outside the apartment complex. Once the police were informed, they entered Naresh’s apartment to investigate, only to find the bodies of the other family members. According to the TOI report, Mahavir had informed a relative that he was in Rs 50 lakh debt and that his business was failing.

“We are investigating the case from both suicide and murder angles. A forensic team is collecting samples to find out the cause of the deaths,” a senior police official told news agency IANS. Their bodies have been taken to the Hazaribagh district hospital for an autopsy.
