Delhi Admission 2017: Here’s the reason for drop in the cutoff percentage

This year, most sought after colleges of Delhi University like LSR, Ramjas and Hindu have tried to keep their first cut off list more "reasonable",

Like every year, students were eagerly waiting for Delhi University’s cut-off list and their wait was finally over when the University announced its first cut-off list on Friday. However, what is different this time is the drop in the cut-off percentage. The reason attributed to it is restraint shown by education boards while giving out marks to the students and dip in the pass percentage of Class XII.

This year, most sought after colleges of DU like LSR, Ramjas and Hindu have tried to keep their first cut off list more “reasonable”, as in the past these colleges saw a shortage of admissions after the announcement of the second cut-off list. At the same time to ensure that good pool of students are able to take admission even in the second list.

On the drop in the cut-off percentage this year, Principal of Hindu College, Anju Srivastav said, “We did our homework and saw a drop in the cutoff would be better. We had kept the first cutoff high last year and, though the intake was good, there was a reduction in the intake from our second list. So we decided it is better to give a reasonable first cutoff this year to reduce the burden on students”.

Meanwhile, there are some colleges like Kirori Mal, Satyawati whose cut-off is similar to the previous year’s, Dinesh Khattar, principal of Kirori Mal College.”Usually, in the first cutoff list we get a trend of what higher colleges are getting. So, being in the mid-level, we have that advantage. We have maintained the cutoff limits so that we can see how others take their first lot and then make the second list more reasonable”.
