Marvel Is Making A Muslim Superhero Film & Priyanka Chopra Might Be ‘Mis-Cast’ In It

Ms Marvel is a 16-year-old Pakistani-American teenager called Kamala Khan from New Jersey. And therefore, Priyanka Chopra might not be an exact fit.

It seems like the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is impressed with its inclusive efforts that has resulted in the phenomenon called Black Panther. And MCU might be looking to tap into more such unconventional narratives, with reports of a Miss Marvel film ‘in the works’.

Miss Marvel, will (refreshingly) be the MCU’s first Muslim superhero even though she might not be the first superwoman. Brie Larson has already won that race with her upcoming movie on Captain Marvel, which is set to release in 2019… a couple of months before the colossal Avengers 4.  In the comic books – Ms Marvel is a 16-year-old Pakistani-American teenager called Kamala Khan from New Jersey.

One of the rumours around the project is Priyanka Chopra being one of the top contenders for the role. She fits the description (read: brown skin), is moderately famous, and still has a certain mystery around herself. But Twitterati have come out in large numbers to suggest why her casting could become controversial.

Just to let you all know, in the upcoming “Captain Marvel” film, we may be getting a female desi super hero called “Miss Marvel”. In the comics, she’s a teenage American Pakistani girl with shape shifting powers. All I’m saying is if they cast Priyanka Chopra I will flip a bus.

People saying that Priyanka Chopra should play Miss Marvel.
What the F guys. kamala is 16 years old. She clearly needs a representation close to that age. So stop suggesting Priyanka cuz It’s definitely a NO GO. pic.twitter.com/S8cLZtuGUt

How are people already offering up 30+ actresses for Miss Marvel? _ Kamala Khan is a teenager, it’s kind of relevant to her story. And I can already tell Twitter is about to be a cringey mess with this for the next few years. pic.twitter.com/heppnSbQ0D

MCU main man Kevin Feige confirmed that the film was being planned, “Ms. Marvel… is definitely sort of in the works. She’s another character in the comic books, the Muslim hero who is inspired by Captain Marvel. We have plans for that once we’ve introduced Captain Marvel to the world,” as reported by the BBC.

After the universe’s first black superhero (Black Panther), its first female superhero (Captain Marvel) and now with the first Muslim superhero in the process – Marvel might just be flashing its ‘woke’ sign of a million watts. Of course, they stand to make potentially billions off it – but it’s still a step in the right direction.
