Google is killing emoji blobs in Android O and we are missing them already!

gerGoogle is saying goodbye to its emoji blobs in its upcoming operating system (OS) Android O (wait… is it Android Oreo or Android Orange). Yes, those cute looking Yellow coloured blobs with funny eyes are going away and we are already missing them (sob sob!). Google first introduced emoji blobs back in 2013 when Android Kitkat used to power the Android smartphones across the globe. Over the years these emoji evolved becoming less blobby and more uniform. Google first introduced emoji blobs back in 2013 when Android Kitkat used to power the Android smartphones across the globe. Over the years these emoji evolved becoming less blobby and more uniform. And now these emojis are getting a drastic makeover, that will not only take away their blobbiness but add 69 new members to its family.

The additions include emojis with cultural significance (eg: a woman wearing hijab and a woman breastfeeding) and fantasy characters (eg: a zombie and a Dracula). Google is also adding a range of new emotions (eg: mind blown) to Android O.

“Yep, we did it. We said goodbye to the blobs…Because one of our main goals with the redesign was to avoid confusion or miscommunication across platforms, we wanted to assure the user that when they sent an emoji to a friend, the message was clearly communicated regardless of whether they are on iOS, Windows, Samsung, or any other platform,” Google’s Rachel Been wrote on a blog post on Medium.
