Revealed! Why did Virat Kohli pick Kedar Jadhav to bowl over Yuvraj Singh in ICC Champions Trophy 2017 match against Sri Lanka

Skipper Virat Kohli answered all the questions asked by the media personnel in the post-match press conference and described the reason for picking up Kedar Jadhav to attack instead of Yuvraj Singh who is a successful part-time bowler

It all started with the massive comeback of Shikhar Dhawan on the international and his magnificent century and Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s blistering 50 later. However, the Lankans turned the game upside down and made it tough for the men-in-blue. In the game number 8 of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017, despite a competitive total of 321 runs, team India lost the game against Sri Lanka by 7 wickets. A victory would have booked their berths in the Semi-Finals but now they have to face South Africa in a do-or-die game on June 11.

After the game ended, skipper Virat Kohli answered all the questions asked by the media personnel in the post-match press conference and described the reason for picking up Kedar Jadhav to attack instead of Yuvraj Singh who is a successful part-time bowler. He stated that Ravindra Jadeja was turning to be ineffective in terms of limiting runs and the same might have happened with Yuvraj. Thus, he has to go with Jadhav at that particular time.

“If the opponent team is four or five down and you have to get few overs out of the way from a part-timer, then Yuvi is best suited but. But at that time, Jadeja was also going for runs. It seemed difficult to bowl with the breeze going that side to the shorter boundary. If it was tough for Jadeja, then obviously Yuvi would have found it a bit more difficult as well”, said Virat Kohli.

He also said that he took the decision after consulting with MS Dhoni. He said,”I also spoke to MS and we both agreed to bet Kedar at that time. Also, in England, if you go for a little seamer deliveries, then you can trouble the batsman. So I thought why not try a few overs there as well? So I think we covered up pretty well.”

It was indeed a great effort by Angelo Mathew’s & Co. to win the game and keep their chances in the tournament alive. After losing two back to back practice games against Australia and New Zealand and then their first game to South Africa, it was a much-needed victory which had made the tournament tougher for the Indians.
