Heard About Insect Ice-Cream? It Is A Thing Now

Who wants to eat bug-topped ice-cream?

Summers are here and so is the season of ice-creams, golas, and popsicles. Also the season of loads of flies and insects around you. And what if somebody serves you a bowl of ice-cream with some insects in it? It will be disgusting, right?

Well, not for everybody. In some parts of the world, the trend of adding bugs to your ice-cream is gaining popularity. Time and again, a leading international magazine sets-up ice-cream stands in several parts of Australia and serves free ice-creams to people but with a twist. These ice-creams are topped with bugs.

If you thought this was some kind of prank, you are mistaken. The exercise was aimed at raising awareness about food habits. As malnutrition is one of the main problems and in the near future, it is expected to grow. Food and nutrition scientists have come up with a solution. Apparently insects are richly endowed with nutrients. The magazine is only trying to create awareness.

There are a lot of bugs and are unlikely to ever go extinct. Also, unlike livestock, they don’t consume large amounts of feed. So these ice-cream stands offer a variety of toppings including meal-worms, grasshoppers, fried crickets, and ants. They even have flavours like Scurry Berry (blueberry and raspberry ice-cream with insect bites), Choc Hopper (chocolate ice-cream with chunks of grasshopper), and Nutritious Neapolitan (strawberry, chocolate and vanilla ice-creams with mixed critters).

The leading magazine is hosting this type of awareness program since 2015.
