This Maharashtra Couple Organised An ‘Election’ To Decide Baby’s Name

Mithun and Mansi Bang, who belong to Gondiya district, organised an 'election' on June 15 complete with banners and ballot boxes to decide upon a name.

Long before a child is born, most parents tend to keep a list of potential baby names ready. And once the baby arrives, in many households it is customary to hold a special naming ceremony. But a couple in Maharashtra came up with a unique way of naming their baby boy.

Mithun and Mansi Bang, who belong to Gondiya district, organised an ‘election’ on June 15 complete with banners and ballot boxes to decide upon a name. Friends and relatives of couple participated in the voting. Three names were shortlisted for the baby, who was born on June 5. And ballot paper containing these names were given to each voter.

The election took place under the banner of Balak Naam Chayan Aayog; and among the guests at the event, there was former MP Nana Patole.

Out of total 192 votes, 92 went to the name Yuvaan, which was the name given to the baby. Talking about his child to PTI, Mithun Bang revealed they couldn’t hold a similar event to name their first child because of a relative’s death around the same time.
