Cheteshwar Pujara’s Comeback Match In England Gets Spoiled By Dale Steyn — Watch

In Royal London One-Day Cup 2018, Dale Steyn showed Cheteshwar Pujara that he still got what it takes to stop a Test veteran

India’s Test mainstay Cheteshwar Pujara made a strong case for India’s ODI team before coming back for one-off historic Test against Afghanistan. He scored 370 runs in 6 innings for Yorkshire in Royal London One-Day Cup 2018, including a century and 3 half-centuries. But against Hampshire, he was outsmarted by South African veteran fast-bowler Dale Steyn.

It seemed like the pressure of a huge total on the board got to the Yorkshire batsmen. Pujara came to bat after the wicket of Adam Lyth early on in the innings. The first two deliveries he played were from Chris Wood. He did not score on those two. In the next over, Steyn troubled Pujara with extra pace and bounce as it took an edge off the bat and carried to first-slip fielder Jimmy Adams.

Here is the video of the dismissal –

The 30-year-old got out without troubling the scorers on his fourth delivery. This was his first duck of the tournament. Before the clash against Hampshire, he had an impressive batting average of 61.66.

In the one-off Test against Afghanistan, Pujara could only score 35 despite a blazing start by the top order. He lost his wicket to 17-year-old Mujeeb Ur Rahman.

On the other hand, Steyn redeemed himself after getting bashed for 80 runs against Somerset in the previous match. Against Yorkshire, he finished with impressive bowling figures of 1 for 34 in 7 overs.

Chasing a target of 349, Yorkshire could only post 241 before getting all out in the 44th over. Hampshire skipper James Vince made a strong case for selection in England’s ODI squad with his knock of 171 from 126 deliveries, including 20 fours and 3 sixes.

India will be touring England in July for 3 T20Is, 3 ODIs and 5 Tests. Whereas squads for T20Is and ODIs have already been announced, Test squad is yet to be selected. Pujara is expected to make the cut on the basis of his recent performances.
