Make payments at Delhi Metro through your wristwatch! Know how

This facility to make payments at Delhi Metro through the wristwatches will provide commuters with a more convenient access to the Metro network

From now on, Delhi Metro commuters will be able to carry smart cards on their wrist, it is possible as now the smart cards in the form of wristwatches are available. One can make a  payment at the Metro gates by wearing these watches which are made by LAKS, an Austria-based company and are called Watch2Pay.

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation in its statement said, “These watches (called Watch2Pay) are available through an online e-commerce site. The new facility is expected to provide the commuters a more convenient and fast access to the Delhi Metro network. The commuter will simply have to touch the wristwatch to the screens of the AFC (Automatic Fare Collection) gates at the metro stations to get access”.

As per a report in IANS,  There will be a SIM card inside the watch which can be removed and reinstated, the way it is done when the user wants to change the watch. Like smart cards, these wristwatches can be recharged at the counters which are there at the Metro stations and also through recharge card terminals.

This is not the first time when a wristwatch is being used to facilitate payment at the Metro stations, in the year 2015,  LAKS also joined hands with the Hyderabad Metro Rail for the purpose of making payments at the Metro stations.

Meanwhile, the centre has given nod to the fourth phase of the Delhi metro. After a meeting with the Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu, BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri announced this decision. The IVth phase of the Delhi Metro will comprise of six lines. The work on this line which will get started by this year and will take three years for the completion of the project.
