Girl jumps off a running train to escape molestation in Andhra Pradesh, accused arrested

To escape from molesters who were allegedly harassing her, a 21-year-old girl jumped off a running train in Prakasam district of Andhra Pradesh. The incident took place when the girl who works in an IT company in Chennai was going to Vijayawada for her engagement on Friday.

The girl along with her two friends was travelling from Ernakulam-Hazrat Nizamuddin Millennium Express when the incident occurred. As they did not have confirmed tickets, all three of them boarded into the S1 coach to request the ticket travelling examiner to arrange seats for them.

It was when the women were standing in the compartment, the three men allegedly started making obscene gestures and vulgar comments. The harassment did not stop here, two of them molested the woman while the third accused recorded the statement on the mobile. The women ask for help from the co-passengers, however, no one came forward for the help.

After which the woman rushed to the door and jumped off from the train, as the speed of the train was slow the woman did not suffer major injuries, except on her head. She was rushed to the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in district headquarter of Ongole in an ambulance with the help of railway police. She is now out of danger.

Later, the accused who have been identified as Kurban, Harikesh Yadav and Sudhakar were arrested by the railway police. Harikesh and Sudhakar are from Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar, whereas, Kurban hails from Bihar.

“We have registered a case under Indian Penal Code sections 342 (wrongful confinement), 506 (criminal intimidation), 509 (insulting the modesty of a woman) and 290 read with section 30 (creating public nuisance),” said the police.
