Fact check: Photos of Rs 2000 notes used for decoration at Anil Ambani’s son’s birthday are FAKE

Social media users are sharing the image widely, without even verifying the details and are criticising Anil Ambani 'for such a move'.

A photo claiming to be of businessman Anil Ambani’s home is going viral on social media. Several people are claiming in the messages that his house was decorated with currency notes for his son’s birthday. Social media users are sharing the image widely and are criticising the business tycoon for ‘showoff’.

But did anyone care to think why will the business tycoon, need fake notes of Rs 2000 and 500 denomination for celebration? People are believing in the image to be real and are forwarding it. Of course, they did not care to notice closely to see whether it was fake or not. The fact is that all these notes are just fake, merely printouts of something that resembles the actual currency.

The notes have a bank name printed on them, just like any real note has Reserve Bank of India written on them. But these do not have the name of the Central bank but in fact bore the name “Sahjanand Bank of Bhuj”.

Mocking the image, many tweeted about it and blamed it for “currency shortage” in the country. Here is how people are reacting to the photo:

1. See through register with denominational numeral 2000
2. Latent image with denominational numeral 2000
3. Denominational numeral 2000 in Devnagari
4. Portrait of Mahatma Gandhi at the centre
5. Micro letters ‘RBI’ and ‘2000’ on the left side of the banknote
6. Windowed security thread with inscriptions ‘Bharat’ (in Devnagari), RBI and 2000 on banknotes with colour shift. Colour of the thread changes from green to blue when the note is tilted
7. Guarantee Clause, Governor’s signature with Promise Clause and RBI emblem towards right
8. Denominational numeral with Rupee Symbol, Rs 2000 in colour changing ink (green to blue) on bottom right
9. Ashoka Pillar emblem on the right. Mahatma Gandhi portrait and electrotype (2000) watermarks
10. Number panel with numerals growing from small to big on the top left side and bottom right side
