16 Amarnath yatra pilgrims killed, 19 injured as their bus falls into gorge in J&K

11 dead after a bus carrying Amarnath Yatra pilgrims fell off the road on Jammu-Srinagar highway; rescue operation by Army underway

At least 16 Amarnath pilgrims have reportedly been killed and 19 are left injured as their bus fell into the gorge in the Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday. The rescue and relief teams have been rushed to the spot. Rescue operations underway.

The incident has come days after terrorists attacked the bus carrying Amarnath pilgrims. The attack took place near Khanabal in Anantnag district on July 10, killing seven people, including six women and 19 were injured Five of those killed were from Gujarat and two from Maharashtra.

A woman who was injured during the attack passed away today and death toll has now reached 8. According to a police office, 47-year-old Lalita succumbed to injuries on July 16. She was undergoing the treatment at a  Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences or SKIMS Hospital in Srinagar. On June 25, intelligence have given input that terrorist might target Amarnath pilgrims.

As per the Jammu and Kashmir Police said that the terror attack was carried out by Lashkar-e-Taiba. The police have constituted a Special Investigation Team or SIT in order to probe the terror attack.

After the attack, Prime Minister said,”India will never get bogged down by such cowardly attacks and the evil designs of hate”.
