Photos: 'Mermaid Toast' is a thing and it looks both gorgeous and poisonous

Unicorn Toast to Mermaid Toast - we're moving from one mythical creature to another

Today in why-is-this-happening, we have the latest trend Instagram is going gaga over: mermaid toast. What are they you ask? It’s your basic bread slice with a topping of cream cheese mixed with a wee bit of colour. Adeline Waugh is the lady behind this exceptional idea.

Explaining the process behind the toast, she wrote: ‘Shades of blue (both the caption I thought of for this photo & the title of one of j.lo’s many endeavors) not sure what to call this…but I’m thinking mermaid toast, as to continue the tradition of naming toast after mythical creatures. I used a variety of blue green algae powders and liquids mixed with almond milk cream cheese to create this ocean inspired toast’

Yes, not only did she come with the now trending mermaid toast, but she also gave us another mythical creature on toast – unicorn.

Mermaid Toast – which looks like Ariel would approve (and grandma would strongly disapprove) – comes in several shades of blue. With gold/pink/purple baubles and sprinkles.
