Just days after an Indian techie was shot dead in an apparent hate crime in the Kansas state of the United States, a Sikh man suffered grave injuries after he was shot by an unidentified man. The man was allegedly attacked by a stranger when he was working outside his residence in the Kent city of the Washington state.
According to several media reports, the attacker approached the 39-year-old Sikh man and got into a tussle with him. Following which, the stranger shot the victim in the arm while making racially charged statements including, “Go back to your own country.” The victim told the police the assailant was a white man who approached him while covering his face with a mask.
The police have affirmed that the victim had sustained “non-life-threatening injuries” and was currently undergoing treatment in the hospital. The police further asserted that the have launched an investigation into the matter and are currently making efforts to nab the accused.
This incident comes days after 32-year-old Srinivas Kuchibhotla, an engineer hailing from India and working at the Garmin headquarters in Olathe, was killed in a shootout while another Indian and his colleague Alok Madasani was critically injured and is battling for life at a local hospital. A man identified as Ian Grillot was also injured in the shooting. United States President Donald Trump on March 1 condemned the killing of Srinivas during his first presidential address to the US Congress. US Congress even observed a minute’s silence for Kansas shooting victims.
Following the shootout, Numerous people gathered Kansas City and conducted a peaceful candle march and prayer vigil to celebrate his life. This march was also attended by the friends of Srinivas while the other Indian who sustained injuries, Alok Madasani, in that attack was also present on his crutches. The priests from various religions also conducted the prayer at the Hindu Temple in the city.
