Barack Obama breaks his silence on Donald Trump’s refugee ban, says ‘heartened’ by protests

Opposing Donald Trump's refugee ban order, Barack Obama said that he was 'heartened' by the protest sparked across the nation.

After weeks of keeping mum about the decisions taken by United States President, Donald Trump, former US President Barack Obama on January 30 broke his silence stating that he absolutely “disagrees” with the refugee ban executive order. He further said that he was in reality “heartened” by the scale of protest against the Muslim’s travel ban.

Asserting that he “fundamentally disagrees” with discriminating on the basis of caste and religion, Obama who has still not returned from his vacation made a statement through his spokesperson, Kevin Lewis. “President Obama is heartened by the level of engagement taking place in communities around the country. In his final official speech as president, he spoke about the important role of citizens and how all Americans have a responsibility to be the guardians of our democracy – not just during an election but every day.” He further asserted that Trump’s travel ban violate the fundamental values of the United States.

In his final press conference, Obama has affirmed that while he wants to make room for his successor Donald Trump, he will speak as an when time and situation demands.

Meanwhile, in a shocking turn of events, Donald Trump has fired his attorney general, Sally Yates, on January 30 after she reportedly “betrayed” the administration and opposed the refugee ban executive order and refused to defend it in court. She was also urging others to not defend Trump’s immigration order.

A day after United States President, Donald Trump signed an executive order to build a wall across the US-Mexico border, he signed another order on January 28 to keep the “radical Islamists” out of the US. The order prevents people from Iraq, Syria, Iran, Sudan, Libya, Somalia or Yemen from entering the country for 30 days.

Trump further asserted that the country  “will never forget the lessons of 9/11 nor the heroes who lost at the Pentagon,” and will honour them not only with our words, but with our actions adding that the steps that were taken by previously after the 9/11 attacks did not stop the terrorists to enter the United States.
