Pakistan man drives through Karachi streets along with ‘pet’ lioness, arrested [Watch video]

The man told the police that the lioness was ill so he was taking her for a medical check-up.

A Pakistan man was detained by the police for driving with a lioness – in a bid to boast about owning a big cat. The Karachi Police detained the man for risking lives of the citizens. According to media reports, the detained man was identified as Malik Saqlain. Despite his insistence that he keeps a license for the animal, he was detained by the police, after a complaint was lodged against him.

The video of him along with his lion in his Vigo car and passing through a busy city street went viral on the social media. The videos of him were shot by the citizens, who later lodged a complaint regarding the lion being driven around the city.

Sindh Home Minister Sohail Anwar Siyal took notice of the incident, following which the authorities took into custody Saqlain alias Sherwala, and his pet lion, according to a report of Tribune.com. Subsequently, Gulberg SP Bashir Ahmed Brohi along with a police team raided the house and detained Saqlain. The lioness was also taken into custody by the police.

After he was detained, Saqlain told the police that the lioness was ill so he was taking her for a medical check-up. The animal owner said he had all the relevant documents required to keep a wild animal as a domestic one. Upon checking the documents, the cops found that his license was expired, hence, action will be initiated against him.

According to a Hindustan Times report, police said the permit issued to Jawaid by the wildlife department of Sindh province for run a “private mini zoo” had expired in June last year. FIR has been registered against him and his documents have ben sent to the wildlife department for verification, officials said.

The video showed pedestrians and drivers staring at the lioness, sitting in the back of the pickup truck. The persons who filmed the video can be heard raising questions about the logic behind transporting a lioness in an open vehicle.
